GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — The Green Bay Metro Fire Department responded to a structure fire at about 9 a.m. Thursday with smoke and flames showing from the rear of a two family home on Weise St.
Upon arrival, fire crews found heavy fire and smoke coming from the exterior rear of the structure. The fire was quickly extinguished in about 2 minutes and 3-4 garbage cans were found burned.
The fire had extended to the exterior wall siding of the home. One resident had evacuated safely and one was not home at the time. The fire was held in check and did not extend into the home.
The fire caused an estimated $25 thousand of damage.
Cause of the fire was determined to be improper disposal of smoking materials. Residents are encouraged to dispose of smoking materials in proper containers.
