GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A man accused of stabbing his father is not competent to stand trial, a judge ruled Friday, and the case has been suspended.
Abdullahi Ali allegedly stabbed his father Feb. 22 at the Islamic Society of Wisconsin on Velp Ave. Others subdued Ali until police arrived. Ali faces several charges, including first-degree reckless injury.
Competency refers to a suspect’s ability to understand the court proceedings and assist in his own defense. Ali is not competent at this time, court records show.
Ali will continue with psychiatric treatment in the effort for him to regain competency. This case and two other previously pending criminal cases will be reviewed June 13, according to court records.
The complaint states that the victim told police that he and his son, Ali, were at the doctor to treat Ali’s mental illness earlier in the day.
“The two went to the mosque to pray and while he was in the prayer room, Abdullahi attacked him from behind with a knife,” the complaint states.
