GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Gas Prices typically fall with the temperature, but even as we enter the fall season, gas prices in Northeast Wisconsin have actually spiked in the last few days.
AAA Wisconsin’s Nick Jarmusz says part of it can be attributed to refinery issues impacting the Midwest.
“Specifically, it was a refinery fire in Toledo, Ohio, that took a large refinery offline. It’s still offline right now,” Jarmusz explained Tuesday.
In a very rare occurrence, and for the first time in three years, Wisconsin gas prices are actually higher than the national average.
Wisconsin prices are standing statewide at $3.92/gal, thirteen cents over the national average at $3.76/gal.
It comes just before Hurricane Ian is expected to hit Florida’s Gulf Coast, which will also impact prices.
“It probably will keep the national average on an upward trajectory, at least temporarily,” said Jarmusz.
Locally prices are even higher in places, with Green Bay at $3.99/gal, Appleton at $3.96/gal. Only Oshkosh is lower at $3.95.
