APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Friday, Valley Transit recognized Dump the Pump Day in Appleton.
Dump the Pump Day is an initiative led by the American Public Transportation Association. It’s to encourage people to ride public transportation instead of driving personal vehicles.
The goal of Friday’s event was to increase awareness of public transportation and to highlight it as both economically and environmentally friendly.
“There’s an opportunity to save a lot of money with the gas prices the way they are today,” Valley Transit general manager Ron McDonald said.
“We’ve really really helped the environment in the Fox Cities and busses are comfortable to ride they kind of float down the street. They’re padded seats, they’re clean, you’d be shocked at how nice transportation is today.”
Valley Transit has more than 18 bus routes across 117 square miles in the Fox Valley.
