The hope has to be the Milwaukee Brewers bottomed out Wednesday night at American Family Field. They endured the most lopsided loss of the year, their 5th in a row, falling to the Philadelphia Phillies 10-0. That’s the third time the Brewers have been shut out in the six of seven games on a dreadful 1-5 homestand that wraps up Thursday afternoon.
Adrian Hauser gave up a pair of two run homers, to Rhys Hoskins and Bryson Stott in the third inning. Odubell Hererra added a solo shot in the 5th to make it 5-0. The Phillies turned the game into a rout with a 4 run ninth, capped by Bryce Harper’s three run blast against reliever Luke Barker.
Offensively, Milwaukee managed 4 hits, all singles against Aaron Nola who covered 8 of the shutout innings with six strikeouts.
The Brewers have slumped to 33-25 but have maintained a half game lead on the struggling St. Louis Cardinals who got rolled by Tampa Bay 11-3.
Corbin Burnes will take the hill in the series finale Thursday afternoon as the swooning Crew is about to embark on another three city road trip to Washington, New York and Cincinnati. Pre-game coverage begins at 12:35 PM with a 1:10 PM first pitch on WNFL.
