GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — She’s in your texts.
Red hair. Nostril ring. A transparent black top clearly designed to make you want to see more. She texts you, asking why you haven’t texted her back, or saying ‘she had a great time and wants to see you again’. One issue: you’ve never seen this woman in your life.
It’s all part of the set up for what experts are warning is another attempt to scam you out of your money and information.
Susan Bach with the Better Business Bureau says that the woman isn’t real–she’s a chat bot.
“The bot is sending out these messages randomly trying to get people to engage in conversation,” said Bach. “The conversation will eventually lead to someone trying to get you to sign up for a dating or adult website.”
That website is likely just an attempt to steal your credit card info and personal information. While similar scams have been common for years, Bach says this one is unusual.
“It’s unusual that it’s the same picture of the same person and that it’s so widespread,” Bach told WTAQ. “It’s being sent, really, just to random phone numbers.”
Bach says you should just ignore the scammer, and block their number.
The identity of the woman in the picture is unclear.
