The Kettle Moraine Lasers captured the WIAA Division 1 State Girls Basketball Championshp with an impressive 69-53 victory over Appleton East at the Resch Center.
Most impressive was junior Grace Grocholski who put 34 points on 9 of 14 shooting from the floor, she went 15 of 16 from the free throw line and pulled down 9 rebounds. Kettle Moraine also got 10 points from Lily Randgaard in winning the second gold ball in school history and first since 1999. As a team, the Lasers went 22 of 24 from the stripe and defended strong forcing 14 turnovers and coming up with 8 steals and 8 blocks. Kettle Moraine finishes 27-3.
Appleton East, making it’s third trip to state, got 19 points from Emily LaChapell and 17 from Logan Lowry before she fouled out midway through the second half. The Patriots finished 25-5 on the season.
