GRAND CHUTE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Some area children from the Fox Valley got their Christmas shopping done Saturday for their families with some help from police officers.
“Shop with a Cop” is a joint venture between the Grand Chute Police Department and the Outagamie County Sheriff’s Office.
Kids were assigned an officer or deputy with whom they shopped before the event.
The children and the officers shopped at Fleet Farm, Target, Meijer and Walmart in Grand Chute.
After shopping ended, the kids and their buddy returned to the police department for lunch and gift wrapping.
Grand Chute police chief Greg Peterson says it’s an exciting time for his officers.
“If you follow the officers around, you’re going to see the smiles on their faces are as big as the smiles on the kids’ faces. They’re really having a great time, we like to give back to the community, we like to improve the quality of life in the community and certainly to brighten the people’s holiday season. So the officers are having a great time, it means a lot to them.”
Before leaving for the day, each family was given a care package of household essentials and all the fixings for a delicious holiday meal.
