GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — The Superintendent of the Green Bay Area School District is thanking parents and students who quickly reported a social media post containing threats against the school. Superintendent Stephen Murley says it’s an example of “see something, say something” in action.
“When you see one of these things, you may not be sure it’s serious,” Murley told WTAQ. “These folks, these kids, these parents, these community members…instead of making that decision on their own, they reported it.”
Murley says it’s something they don’t ignore.
“From what we understand, it sounds like this was a couple of students that made an incredibly bad choice. Sometimes teenagers do that,” Murley said. “But it doesn’t matter whether it’s a joke or someone intended it, we take it as seriously as if the threat was real and was going to happen.”
Murley says cooperation with the police was instantaneous and that police stepped up their presence at the school on Monday.
Two students have been charged. Murley encourages parents, students, and community members to say something if they see something like that on social media.
