GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Green Bay Packers rookie quarterback Jordan Love started Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Some Packers fans say given the circumstances, Love did well. Love was filling in for Aaron Rodgers, who came down with COVID-19 earlier in the week.
“I knew that KC was going to be after him the whole game, that was probably going to be their game plan being his first NFL start but I thought he did well,” Kimberly resident Dave Schuh said.
“I thought he did a pretty good job. I really do. I mean it’s his first start, he was under the gun, and his stats looked reasonable. I mean he was missing timing with all the receivers because he just didn’t have enough time with them,” Minneapolis resident Jay Greiling said.
Manitowoc resident Mike Shallue says he figured Love would be nervous at the beginning of the game.
“And as the game went on, second half in that he seemed to perform a little bit better,” Shallue said.
Greiling says he’d like to see Love get more practice with timing.
“Especially with Davante, he missed that long ball by inches,” Greiling said.
Greiling said he’d also like to see Rodgers back on the field.
“He’s obviously the guy. But I don’t know how long he’s going to be out with COVID,” Greiling said.
“Well, I’m sure if Aaron is able to come back that he would be the starter. If things change and if Jordan is going to be the guy then yeah, I’m 100 percent behind him,” Schuh said.
“Normally it takes a quarterback 3 to 5 years to completely learn the system. Mr. Rodgers had to do that under Brett Favre, four years I think it was so it’s better than throwing the quarterback like a lot of these rookies into the wolves den or whatever you might say, because they have an awful lot to learn,” Shallue said.
