APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — As a surge in COVID-19 cases continues, the city of Appleton is recommending people be vaccinated and wear masks in public indoor settings.
The recommendation follows the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s guidelines issued last week. The CDC urges anyone in an area where the virus is spreading to wear a mask in public indoor settings, regardless of vaccination status.
Masks will continue to be required for Valley Transit drivers and riders as part of a federal mandate. Masks will also be used in indoor public settings in city facilities.
Appleton sits in Outagamie, Winnebago and Calumet counties. As of Wednesday, Calumet County was listed as having “high” transmission on the CDC’s map, and Outagamie and Winnebago counties were listed as having “substantial” transmission.
The Appleton Health Department is holding a vaccination clinic at the Appleton Public Library from 3-6 p.m. Wednesday. The Pfizer vaccine is available to those 12 and older, and the Johnson & Johnson vaccine is available to those 18 and older. Appointments can be made online.

Appleton officials say 62.7% of city residents 12 and older have been vaccinated.
