APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) – Appleton Police are investigating a report of a shot fired in a neighborhood west of downtown.
Around 1:00 a.m. Saturday morning, someone fired a handgun inside a home on the 900 block of W. Lawrence Street – near the intersection with Story Street. An individual inside the residence told police that a shooting had occurred.
“What had appeared had happened is that there was an altercation that surrounded an illegal drug transaction possibly taking place. During that altercation, a single round was fired inside the home,” said Captain Mike Frisch. “I’m not sure if they knew each other, but they were there for a purpose. They went there for a drug transaction. Our concern for the community isn’t as high because it was more of a targeted situation.”
No one was injured.
Frisch says events like these don’t happen very often in Appleton.
“I wouldn’t say it’s common, they do happen from time to time. Many times they occur and firearms are not at play, so shots are not fired. So I’d say this is pretty rare, this occurrence,” Frisch told WTAQ News. “Appleton is still a very safe place to reside and we as a police department always rely on citizen partners to report suspicious incidents or different things that they see going on. They’re very much our eyes and ears out there.”
