BROWN COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Those who live in Brown County and have difficulty leaving their homes can now be vaccinated against the coronavirus.
Brown County Public Health, the Aging & Disability Resource Center of Brown County, Bellin Health and De Pere Public Health are partnering to offer in-home vaccinations.
“We want to make sure that everyone in our community who wants a COVID vaccine can get it,” Brown County Public Health community engagement manager Andrea Kressin said.
“By offering vaccinations in home, we’re able to say yes, there’s a program that will help support you in getting that vaccination if you’re interested.”
The ADRC says an in-home vaccination process is similar to what you would see at a clinic, but those interested will go through a screening beforehand.
Officials plan to contact and screen people using the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s pre-vaccination checklist to determine whether the in-home option is best for that person.
“We meet with them and do an overall assessment, if they can get out, if they want to get out, any special transportation we would help with that, if they truly have some barriers for getting out, we help coordinate that,” ADRC information and assistance coordinator Mary Schlautman said.
A licensed vaccinator will come to the house to administer the shot.
Schlautman says people are grateful to have this option available.
This is the first week, and Schlautman says they already have 12 appointments on the books.
“They’ve waited for it, it’s been something we’ve been asked all along,” Schlautman said.
The ADRC hopes to get as many people vaccinated as they can.
“It’s been a long haul, especially for folks who are with disabilities and elderly, isolated and lonely so the further we can move that mark and get more people vaccinated, we want our community to be back open again and feel comfortable to move around,” Schlautman said.
