GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Now that Winter has come and gone, we are moving into the other season of the year: road construction.
April is Work Zone Awareness Month, and Brown County Public Works Director Paul Fontecchio wants people to keep those orange barrels in mind.
“It’s good to make everybody aware that we need to be safe,” Fontecchio told WTAQ. “Not only for the safety of our workers, but for the safety of the traveling public, too.”
Fontecchio says there is one thing they’re really hoping to warn against: using your cell phone while driving. Especially in work zones.
“Probably the scariest thing that we see out there are people whizzing by at 70-80 miles an hour, on their cell phone, not even looking at the road,” said Fontecchio. “So for this year, that’s what I’m really highlighting.”
There are several large road projects expected to take place in Brown County this year, including a large project on Allouez Avenue on the East Side.
