GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Nearly four million doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine will be shipped out Sunday across the United States.
FOX 11 spoke with Bellin Health’s Dr. Brad Burmeister on Good Day Wisconsin Sunday regarding vaccine rollout in the state.
Dr. Burmeister says Wisconsin is expected to receive 47,000 doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine this week.
“I know that Wisconsin as a state has done really great from the state distributing them out all the way down to the health systems who are doing the vaccines in communities. Wisconsin either ranks number one or in the top few states in the country of proportions in vaccines we have received as a state to administer.”
More students in the Green Bay Area Public School District will be heading back to the classroom today.
When asked what his advice for parents is, Dr. Burmeister said schools have a good set up, safety-wise.
“They are doing the best they can with distancing, I hear that kids are doing relatively well with wearing those face masks. We’re really starting to get teachers vaccinated with a good effort starting right about now. Schools are a very safe place, we’ve seen many studies show that schools might actually be safer than being out in the community.”
On March 8th, a blended group of 7th and 8th graders will resume in-person learning as well as high school sophomores through seniors, following a cohort model.
