APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Appleton has now formally recognized this week as Arts in Education Week.
From now on, the city will join others in celebrating Sept. 13-19.
Mayor Jake Woodford, the president of the fox cities performing art center, and the Appleton school district superintendent were present for the announcement.
They all agreed – education and the arts are best when working hand in hand.
Fox Cities Performing Arts President Maria Van Laanen tells FOX 11…..
“Arts education helps in so many different ways. First of all, it helps with creative problem solving; one of the best ways to learn creative problem solving and see beyond the obvious what’s there is through the arts. I also think that the arts can be used to teach so many different subject areas.”
Appleton’s mayor says the proclamation is key to recognize how important the arts are in a student’s development.
